Snowboarder Nate Holland Vows Quick Comeback After Broken Clavicle

If snowboarder Nate Holland is to make his third-straight U.S. Olympic team, he'll have to overcome another broken clavicle.

Holland, who resides in Truckee, suffered his latest setback while training for the snowboardcross World Cup in Austria. After a successful surgery, he took to social media to showcase a revealing before-and-after x-rays.

Along with the picture, Holland write: "I snapped my clavicle in a World Cup training run in Austria a few days ago. I'm keeping a positive outlook on the whole situation. Two years ago I broke my clavicle and was back on snow, racing within a few weeks. I have full confidence in Dr. Hackett and his medical staff and am focused on the surgery and recovery. I know what I need to do to get back in the start gate for Olympic qualifiers and I’m am meeting that challenge head on. Olympic years are pressure cooker seasons and this is only a speed bump on my road to Sochi. I've never been one to back down from a challenge, and look forward to once again overcoming adversity."

The six-time X Games snowboardcross champion is expected to be riding again later this month, according to U.S. Snowboarding's medical director, Kyle Wilkens.

The U.S. Olympic team will be selected in January and will largely be based on results from the World Cup. The Sochi Games will begin Feb. 7.
