South Bay Schools Receive Top Grades in National Ranking

South Bay schools stood out among other Bay Area campuses in a newly released school rank list.

Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) is the 11th best school district in the country, according to the 2016 Niche.com K-12 School & District Rankings released this week. Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District ranked 21st best district.

PAUSD’s Henry M. Gunn High School was ranked 27th best public high school. Campolindo High School in Moraga and Lynbrook High School in San Jose both made the top 100 best public high schools.

Among the top 100 private high schools, a trio of Bay Area schools made the top ten. College Preparatory School in Oakland took the third spot, receiving an “A plus” grade in academics and “A” in student culture and diversity. Castilleja School in Palo Alto took fifth place and San Francisco University High School ranked number eight.

All three schools scored higher than number 14 Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. where Malia and Sasha Obama attend school.

Only a few Bay Area schools were considered more “diverse” than other schools. Adrian Wilcox High School in Santa Clara ranked 51st most diverse, while Fremont High School in Sunnyvale and Gateway High School in San Francisco made the top 100.

Niche.com says they compute rankings by aggregating parent- or student-submitted survey responses, statistical factors and student outcomes.
