South San Francisco Firefighter Delivers Baby on Freeway

A hero, an ambulance and a baby delivered on a freeway — all part of a night's work for a Bay Area firefighter.

Firefighters train for all sorts of situations, including emergency delivery of babies. So South San Francisco firefighter Jesse Lange was ready when the call came in Monday morning. A woman was in labor and the baby didn’t want to wait until she got to the hospital.

“On the way, between 380, the baby came out, some manipulation of the cord, it came out great and we're happy to hear that the baby's doing well," Lange said.

The baby and its parents are doing well. The firefighters even pooled their money together to get some presents for the family. The parents plan to come to the firehouse to have a little reunion.
