Spare the Air Alert Issued for Monday

For the fourth time this winter season, officials have issued a Spare the Air alert, reports the Mercury News.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District today issued the alert, which bans burning wood, manufactured firelogs, or any other solid fuel both indoors and outdoors.

During the winter months, the air flow is not as active as other seasons and can trap pollutants, causing illness.

People burning wood during a Spare the Air day could be fined $400 or more. Residents should visit the Bay Area Air Quality Management District website to make sure it's safe to burn, before doing so.
