Spinlister, The “Airbnb” For Bikes, Has 2,000 Bicycles For Rent

Spinlister is being touted as the "Airbnb" for bicycles.

The business model is the offspring of a marriage between the so-called "sharing economy" and the bicycle-riding boom, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Users on Spinlister offer their bikes for rent to those looking to temporarily acquire a bicycle.

Bikes are on offer for between $5 to $150 a day, a range that includes $6,000 triathlon bikes as well as "wooden bikes," chief marketing officer Andrew Batey told the newspaper.

There are about 2,000 bikes offered on the website.

One 26-year-old user notes that he has rented out his bike "15 times over the past two years," making back the cost of the bike with a little profit.

Bikes are also insured up to $10,000 each for repairs, which the renters are responsible for, the newspaper reported.
