Storm Headed For Bay Area This Week, With Heavy Rains, Gusty Winds Expected

Light rainfall begins Tuesday afternoon in North Bay, then gets heavier across the entire region Thursday

Another storm is headed to the Bay Area this week, with widespread heavy rainfall and gusty winds expected to start late Wednesday and into Thursday, according to forecasters.

On Tuesday, mostly cloudy skies will bring scattered light rain to the North Bay and possibly to higher elevations along the Peninsula and South Bay, according to the National Weather Service. The moisture will remain over much of the northern part of the region into Wednesday.

High temperatures will remain near average in the upper 50s to low 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, NBC Bay Area Chief Meteorologist Jeff Ranieri says.

On Thursday, rainfall levels are expected to be between 0.75 of an inch to 2 inches on average for lower elevations, Ranieri says. He warned of rising river levels, isolated street flooding, downed trees and possible power outages in higher impacted areas.

Showers are likely to linger into Friday before dry conditions return regionwide by the weekend, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service also issued a warning about possible coastal flooding due to extreme tides known as King tides. Flooding in low-lying areas along the coastline and bay fronts is likely to occur during high tide, the weather service said. Such locations could include parking lots, sidewalks, coastal trails, underpasses and roadways.

High tides are expected in the mid- to late morning hours Tuesday through Thursday. Low tides are likely in the afternoon and evening hours, the weather service said.
