Student Shot With BB Gun on San Jose Campus

A 14-year-old student was shot with a BB or pellet gun at a San Jose school Friday afternoon, San Jose police said.

A 14-year-old girl was shot by either a BB or pellet gun at Oak Grove High School's rear campus near the fence line abutting the backyards of homes on Lean Avenue between Hayes Avenue and Blossom Hill Road, police said.

The girl was taken to the hospital with injuries that appeared to not be life-threatening. Officers tracked down the suspected shooter to the 5500 block of Lean Avenue, where they arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of shooting the girl, police said.

Officers recovered an air gun believed to be the weapon used in the assault, police said. The suspect was then processed to be booked at Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.

The motive for the assault remains under investigation, although police believe the victim was randomly targeted. No other injures were reported.
