Student Stabbed in Martinez Locker Room

A junior high student was stabbed in a Martinez locker room during P.E. on Thursday, according to the school district and witnesses, although the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

School officials said a 13-year-old student brought a knife from home to campus and used it to attack one of his classmates. The attack occurred during the school's third period at around 11 a.m.

The seventh grader immediately turned himself in to authorities after the attack, school officials said. He remains in custody while investigators and school officials figure out why he attacked his classmate.

The injured student is an 11-year-old boy, who was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. School officials said the student was stabbed in the back, but is expected to recover.

Grief counselors were on campus after the attack to help the 900-plus student body deal with the incident.

The stabbing also prompted some anxious parents to pick up their children early.
