Modesto police say a 53-year-old man died after apparently shooting himself at a cemetery.

Sgt. Rich Armendariz, a department spokesman, says the man's family members were looking for him when the shot was reported at Acacia Memorial Park about 3:10 p.m. Sunday.

He says preliminary information suggests the man had been despondent over financial issues and had threatened suicide in comments to family members.

Police say the man belonged to a World War II re-enactors group and was wearing what appeared to be a German military uniform when he died.

The man was pronounced dead at a Modesto hospital.
