SuperShuttle Shortage at San Francisco Airport Causes Hassle for Bay Area Travelers

A shuttle shortage at San Francisco International Airport is an unexpected hassle for Bay Area travelers that has many scrambling to find another ride.

At a SuperShuttle stop at SFO, some passengers were not sure what service they would get.

"I came here and they told me they might not be able to fulfill that, so that I should wait a few minutes and see if it gets sorted out, but I have no idea what's going on" said Javier Artines, who is a passenger from New York.

But a flight from New York ended with success. Artines made it on SuperShuttle for his last leg of the journey. At least four shuttles left in a short amount of time, but later, Sally Flinchbaugh waited and said she was told she would not be picked up because the systems were down.

"They said because there were communication problems," she said. "They couldn’t communicate with the drivers."

She said she is getting a refund and considered a cab. A SuperShuttle representative told NBC Bay Area they were looking at filling in gaps with additional services. Another representative said by phone a majority of their SuperShuttle drivers did not show up.

"They’re not driving because I think they have a protest or something," SuperShuttle driver Fekeide Mariam said. "I’m a driver. My franchise knows better about it."

Mariam said he came in to help accommodate passengers.

"I was off all day," he said. "My boss told me to show up."

A driver for another company, who did not want to go on camera, said the issue was over system fees.

But for those trying to get home, many moved on quickly to other shuttles or rides.

"I will wait a little more," Benjamin Mendoza from Mexico City said. "If not, I will take another option."
