Survey: Bay Area Cities Among Worst in U.S. for Saving Money

A new survey has found San Francisco to be the worst city in the country for saving money, with other Bay Area cities not far behind.

GOBanking Rates looked at sales tax, median home and condo value, median monthly rent, median income, unemployment rates and gas prices to determine the ranking. Los Angeles is the runner-up.

Oakland nabbed the fifth slot, followed immediately by San Jose at sixth place and Fremont in eighth.

The top candidates is less predictable when it comes to the best city for saving money in the country. That honor goes to Portland, Oregon, followed by Anchorage, Alaska and Lincoln, Nebraska.
