Suspect REALLY Wanted Out of Patrol Car

Rohnert Park officers earned their money subduing this suspect

Rohnert Park authorities detained a 40-year-old man Saturday after he resisted arrest by breaking a moving patrol car window with his head and trying to crawl out on the highway, police said.

According to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, officers arrested Charles Harding in the area of Seed Farm and Enterprise
drives in Rohnert Park on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance on Saturday.

En route to the Sonoma County Jail on northbound U.S. Highway 101, Harding used his head to break out the passenger side rear window of the patrol car he was riding in, police said. He then tried to crawl out with his hands still cuffed behind his back.

The officer driving the patrol car pulled over to the shoulder of the road before Harding could get out the window, according to authorities.
The officer requested additional officers to help subdue Harding, and a struggle between the two ensued just before the Todd Road exit in Rohnert Park.

Harding ripped the officer's shirt and grabbed at the officer's duty belt and handgun, police said. He then pulled away and attempted to run
across the highway. The officer pulled him back before he reached the oncoming traffic.

The officer was able to bring Harding to the ground and hold him there until the other officers arrived, police said.

An ambulance came to inspect Harding for possible head injuries, and although he was cuffed at the hands and ankles, Harding continued to fight with officers and ambulance personnel, police said. He bit one ambulance personnel worker on the leg.

Harding was finally secured to a backboard and transported to Memorial Hospital, according to police.

After receiving medical clearance, he was transported to the county jail and booked on charges of being under the influence of a
controlled substance, two counts of battery on a police officer, vandalism, resisting a police officer and committing a felony while out on bail.
