Suspected ATM Burglar Falls Through Roof While Fleeing From Police

A San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest Friday after he fell through a roof while fleeing from police, according to a police spokeswoman.

Police were called to the 2400 block of San Bruno Avenue around 3:45 a.m. on a report of a suspect attempting to break into an ATM machine at a bank, according to police.

Officers spotted the suspect jumping between rooftops and set up a perimeter around the scene.

John Franklin, 33, was taken into custody around 5 a.m. after he fell through the roof of a building adjacent to the bank, according to Sgt. Danielle Newman.

He was not injured severely enough to require hospitalization, Newman said. No information was available on the damage to the building's roof.

Franklin is being held on suspicion of two counts of burglary and one count of resisting arrest, Newman said.
