Swine Flu Kills Castro Bar Owner

One of the latest victims of the H1N1 virus, known as swine flu, is a popular bar owner in the Castro District.

Doug Murphy is a co-owner of Moby Dick and Blackbird.  His death was announced recently on the Blackbird fan's Facebook page.

Murphy died last Friday due to complications from the flu.

Murphy was 41 years old and did not appear to have any pre-existing medical conditions.

His business partner said he got sick while down in Palm Springs, adding Murphy had not recently traveled outside the country.

Blackbird's Facebook page asks patrons to: "Come by, have a shot of Jager and a Bud Light to Doug. We miss him dearly."

Memorial services are pending.
