An Oakland taco truck owner is in the hospital this morning after being shot and robbed while he was closing up for the night.

The incident started as a robbery, but turned into what is being described as a wild shootout between the worker and multiple robbers.

The Mercury News reports that even though the taco truck owner was shot three times, he returned fire hitting one of the men who had just attempted to rob him.

The victim was not only armed, but also had a bullet proof vest inside his vehicle. Those items were apparently some of the supplies he kept on hand while working late at night in East Oakland. The Merc said although the man had a bullet proof vest on hand, he was not  wearing it at the time he was shot.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. The suspect who was shot took himself to a hospital is also expected to recover.
