Something is missing from a popular bar in San Francisco's Mission District - a woman affectionately known as the “Tamale Lady.”
Virgina Ramos has been banned from selling her tamales at Zeitgeist. The bar made the announcement Wednesday, saying the change was prompted by the health department. She isn't a licensed vendor.
Ramos has been hustling her tamales to bar patrons at all hours, for years.
“I’ve been going to the Zeitgeist for over 15 years,” Ramos said. “It’s where I met all those young kids and it’s part of my family.”
Local
Ramos traditionally visits multiple bars a night, selling her tamales.
There's even a “Tamale Lady Finder” app that points hungry drinkers in the right direction.
