Team Oracle Takes Lead Into Final
This weekend's races are seen as a dress rehearsal for next year's America's Cup
The America's Cup World Series races hit San Francisco Bay on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
Oracle Team USA had another strong showing on the San Francisco Bay Saturday coming in first in the semi-final races.
Skipper Jimmy Spithill gained the lead early and held it through the entire race. At one point on the second upwind leg the Oracle boat had a commanding 300-meter lead over the second place boat.
Team Korea came in 2nd. Energy Team came in 3rd. There was only 3 seconds between Energy and the Koreans.
At the close of racing Saturday, Oracle lead the standings, followed by Energy Team, Team Korea, and Luna Rossa Piranha. Here is a look at the standings
For the record, Oracle has two boats in the races, but are part of the same team.
Racing gets underway Sunday with the championship match.
The racing is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. and will be nationally broadcast on NBC Bay Area.
Thousands of people are expected to pack Marina Green again Sunday to watch some of the world's best sailors compete for the America's Cup title. The Giants are the Sunday night ESPN game so while racing fans won't have to compete for spots getting into the City, there could be some extra traffic as one group tries to get out of town while the other group makes it way to the ball park.

- On Sunday the finals will begin. All the sailors will compete in one final fleet race and those who are still in the running will compete in final match racing. Laurence Scott will continue our live presence out on the deck at America's Cup Village.
