Tesla Goes ‘Ludicrous' With Model ‘S'

Good news today for speed freaks, and electric SUV fans.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed updates to the company’s line of electric cars; a few dealing with the already on the road Model S, one dealing with the soon-to-be-released Model X.

Topping the list of news that was quickly shot around the world via social media, the new “Ludicrous Mode” for the Model S. Musk, never shy about having fun with his icon image (see the previous “Insane Mode” for the Model S), says “Ludicrous Mode” will give the Model S a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.8 seconds.

That’s astoundingly fast, and will add ten thousand dollars to the cost of the car.

Additional updates to the Model S include a cheaper version, shaving $5,000 off the cost of the entry-model sedan, setting the price at $70,000, and an upgraded battery pack to boost the range of the car. That will cost $3,000.

As for the upcoming cars, Musk says the Model X SUV will begin deliveries “in a couple of months,” while the rumored “affordable” Tesla, the Model 3, won’t be seen for at least two years.
