The Great Coastal Fix Under Way

Work began over the weekend to repair a section of San Francisco's Great Highway that was destroyed by winter storms, according to the
Department of Public Works.

Construction to restabilize a section of the Great Highway between Skyline Boulevard and Sloat Boulevard is expected to last until the end of October, according to public works.

The work will include improved drainage, new paving and a realigned roadway.

The Great Highway was shut down after heavy storms in December 2009 and January of this year caused heavy damage to adjacent sea cliffs, causing erosion of up to 70 feet in some places.
