More than a thousand people gathered Wednesday night at the University of California, Berkeley to remember student-athlete Ted Agu.
The defensive lineman at Cal died Friday morning after collapsing during a training run with his teammates. Agu was 21.
"I can't imagine what it's like to lose a son or a brother," said Stefan McClure, Agu's teammate. "He was one of our brothers and we're just trying to be strong for each other."
Agu was from Bakersfield. He was going to be a fifth-year senior next season.
The defensive lineman appeared in seven games for Cal last season, recording six tackles. He played five games the previous two seasons.
In high school, Agu earned All-Southwest Yosemite League honors in his final two prep seasons, according to the Cal Bears website.
The cause of Agu's death is unknown and remains under investigation.
