U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and San Francisco police raided three homes in the city's Sunset District Wednesday, seizing  thousands of marijuana plants, authorities said.

The DEA operation began at about 7 a.m. at a home in the 2600 block of 26th Avenue, DEA Special Agent Casey McEnry said. She said agents  serving a warrant found an indoor marijuana-growing operation that consisted  of about 1,800 plants.

"That's a very large grow," McEnry said.

Two people were at the home at the time but were not arrested.

Evidence found at the home then led authorities to another Sunset District residence, at 34th Avenue and Lawton Street.

San Francisco police assisting in the DEA operation secured a search warrant for that home, where another indoor pot grow was found that consisted of about 800 plants, McEnry said.

An individual was located at that home but was also not arrested.

McEnry said no other drugs or weapons were found at either residence.

Today's raids were part of an ongoing two-year DEA investigation into marijuana-growing operations, McEnry said. She would not provide further details.

In a separate action, San Francisco police served a search warrant at a third home in the 2700 block of 40th Avenue, where they arrested four people and seized large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and  growing equipment, and a gun.

In addition to today's raids, San Francisco police have conducted 23 similar indoor marijuana grow busts in the past six months in the Sunset  and Ingleside neighborhoods.
