A three-alarm fire gutted more than half a dozen East Bay businesses early Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded to flames near the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and 73rd Avenue in East Oakland just after 1 a.m. The fire was deemed under control around 6:40 a.m., according to Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed.
A fourth alarm was called, but quickly canceled as firefighters had the blaze under control, Reed said.
Officials, who say as many as seven businesses were destroyed, believe the fire began in a Metro PCS store and engulfed nearby shops.
No injuries were reported, officials said.
The intersection and up to a block away were closed, and Reed said firefighters would remain on scene throughout the day for a fire watch and to tend to any lingering hot spots.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there has been no assessment of damage yet, Reed said.
