Fairfield police say a misunderstanding lead to the report of three missing children overnight.

Ten-year-old Trinity Richardson, 6-year-old Liliana Richardson,  and 5-year-old Gregory Richardson were last seen in the "Tot Lot" children's  park in the 1700 block of Kentucky Street at about noon Saturday, police  said.

Police suspected the children might be with their mother,  35-year-old Christina Lopez of Fairfield, who for a time could not be located.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, Fairfield police officers located the three children with their mother.

Police Though Lopez's actions have caused unnecessary concern on the part of the children's families, and mobilized the police department for the subsequent search, they are not considered criminal in nature at this time.

The children were considered at-risk because of their ages, police said.

Lopez was described by family members as being transient in nature and having minimal contact with her children. She had been the focus of the search at the onset of the investigation and was observed by a local motel clerk trying to get a motel room during the evening.
