Three Men Facing Life After Shots Fired at Police

The three documented gang members were involved in a brief chase and an exchange of gunfire with a San Bruno Police officer last Saturday, according to authorities.

Three men authorities say were on their way to kill a rival gang member are behind bars after a San Bruno police officer apparently interrupted their plans.

San Mateo County prosecutors say 23-year-old Daniel Garcia, 18-year-old Jordy Bernal and 25-year-old Michael Apolinario are being held without bail after their arrest following a brief chase and an exchange of gunfire with the officer last Saturday.

The three suspects appeared in court Wednesday, where they were charged with attempted murder of a police officer, conspiracy to commit murder and gang-related charges.

District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe says if convicted, the three suspects, all documented gang members, could be sentenced to life in prison.

They did not enter pleas during their brief appearance Wednesday, but were assigned attorneys and ordered to return to court June 6.
