Train Strikes, Kills Man in Sunnyvale

Early indications say the man purposedly stepped in front of train.

A northbound train struck and killed an adult man on the Caltrain tracks in Sunnyvale, Caltrain officials said Sunday afternoon.

The person was struck by the #439 train at 4:15 p.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

There were 75 passenger on board at the time and none was hurt.

Trains stopped for a time, but thanks to special trains people were back on their way by 5:30 p.m.

Caltrain said this is the second fatality of the year. There were 16 fatalities in 2011.

The person was not immediately identified.

The Caltrain statement also read: "Although the facts are not yet certain, preliminary information suggests the person may have intentionally placed himself in the path of the oncoming train."
