Trapped Baby Deer Rescued from Belmont Backyard

Crews on the Peninsula had to act quickly to rescue a fawn trapped in someone's backyard.

Belmont firefighters rescued the baby deer on Thursday in San Carlos after it became trapped between the wall of a home and a fence post, Belmont city officials said.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 600 block of Wellington Drive in San Carlos around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to Belmont police Capt. Patrick Halleran.

They were able to free it in about 15 minutes, Halleran said.

The fawn had minor injuries and was checked at the scene by San Mateo County Animal Rescue and Control before being released.

Officials think the fawn had become trapped during the previous night.
