Trebek Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

A woman accused of burglarizing the San Francisco hotel room of "Jeopardy" game show host Alex Trebek last week pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of residential burglary and possession of stolen property.

Lucinda Moyers, 56, was arrested shortly after the burglary, which occurred around 3 a.m. last Tuesday at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis at 55 Fourth St., according to police. She could be facing her third felony strike.

Trebek was in town filming the National Geographic World Championship at Google headquarters in Mountain View.

He and his wife Jean were sleeping early Tuesday when they awoke to find a woman inside their room, stealing their belongings. Trebek got out of bed and chased her down the hallway, but ruptured his Achilles tendon and fell.

San Francisco police responded and took Moyers into custody after she was detained by hotel security guards.
   
She is believed to have stolen property including a purse, wallets and cash, and although officers located several of the items near a hotel ice machine, others were not found, police said.

Moyers has two prior convictions for residential burglary in San Francisco in 1990 and 1991, and served time in state prison for both, district attorney's spokeswoman Erica Derryck said.

Derryck said the district attorney has not yet decided whether to prosecute the burglary as a three-strikes case.

Police and prosecutors have not said how Moyers got into Trebek's hotel room.

Moyers is being held on $625,000 bail and has been ordered to stay at least 150 yards away from Trebek and his wife.
      
She will return to court on Aug. 15 to set a date for the preliminary hearing.
