A truck ended up striking the side of a house after a San Mateo police officer spotted the truck with its hazard lights on in the middle of the street, and the driver sped away from police.
This led to a brief pursuit in a neighborhood about 2:45 a.m., police said. The officer briefly lost sight of the truck but as he came around a corner, he saw the truck through a fence against the chimney of a house in the 500 block of Idaho street, police said. The driver and passenger were detained without incident. The driver was later arrested for drunk driving and failure to yield. The passenger was released.
The fire department inspected the house and it was declared structurally sound.
