Officer Jose Garcia said a witness told officers that a 1970 Barracuda with the dad and daughter inside looked to be going faster than the posted speed limit in the 800 block of Lincoln Ave. at 7:10 p.m. Sunday when it lost control, smashed into a fire hydrant and sign post before smashing into a restaurant, which was closed and empty.
The witness told police that it appeared that the Barracuda was racing another car, or possibly trying to catch up to a group of cars ahead of it when it crashed. Garcia stressed that only one witness reported the possible speed of the Barracuda and investigators are working to determine what really happened.
The driver and his teenage daughter were taken to the hospital and Garcia said they are expected to live. He said there is no indication of drugs or alcohol being involved. The driver has not been arrested.
