Two San Jose Colleges Under Federal Investigation

Two South Bay colleges are under investigation for allegedly failing students when it comes to sexual assault.

The San Jose Mercury News reports a federal agency is looking into Evergreen Valley and San Jose City colleges. A group of faculty whistle-blowers say the schools don't have enough police, don't send alerts about incidents and don't encouraging victims to report attacks.

School leaders say the colleges comply with federal law.

San Jose-Evergreen Community College District Rita Cepeda responded with a statement Friday, saying, “As a woman … there is nothing more important to me than ensuring that our students and faculty, especially females, are safe while attending night classes at either of our campuses. It is because of this sensitivity that I have made public safety my top priority and have invested countless resources in making our community colleges some of the safest in the Bay Area.”

Dozens of schools across the country are under similar investigations, including UC Berkeley, UCLA and the University of Southern California.
