UC Berkeley Purchases XXX Domains

School joins a host of others trying to protect its image.

The University of California Berkeley is getting into the business of porn -- sort of.

UC Berkeley spent $1,300 to purchase XXX domain names that could have been associated with the school.

The move by Berkeley is in line with several other universities across the country that purchased XXX domains to protect the schools' image against porn companies.

Late last year Internet regulators approved the release of the triple x domains.

The Daily Cal reports that the school spent $200 per name for 10 years for the following domains:

  •     ucberkeley.xxx
  •     universityofcaliforniaberkeley.xxx
  •     uc-berkeley.xxx
  •     universityofcalifornia-berkeley.xxx
  •     goldenbears.xxx
  •     cal.xxx

The school also purchased calbears.xxx for the next year. None of the purchased domains will host explicit pictures of Oski or any other Golden Bear employees or mascots.
