The stakes will be high at this year's Olympic gymnastics trials in San Jose. In a shift from previous years...the US Gymnastics team will choose its full women's squad for the London Games at the end of the trials in July.

In 2004 and 2008, the top two women at trials were automatically chosen for team USA, and the rest were chosen at a selection camp a couple weeks before the start of the Olympics. That required special permission from the U.S. Olympic Committee, because the committee normally submits all athlete names 30 days before the games.

This year, there's a shorter time frame between the trials and the opening ceremonies in London, so USA Gymnastics decided the full team would be named at trials.

The men's gymnastics team has always named its full team at trials.

The 2012 Olympic Gymnastics trials will be held June 28 through July 1.
