Uber Drivers Must Pick Up Seeing-Eye Dogs, Or Be Fired

Uber drivers are under strict instruction to pick up dogs for the blind.

Uber drivers may be denying rides to people with service dogs.

And that's not OK with Uber.

The ride-providing service has announced that its drivers must pick up seeing-eye dogs along with customers or be fired, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting, following news from one San Francisco resident who says his Uber driver left him in the lurch.

Jonathan Lyens, who uses a guide dog to get about, says that Uber drivers have canceled rides he requested, and in one instance, a driver canceled the ride after seeing him with his dog, he told reporters.

Lyens has retained attorneys, but in the meantime, Uber said in a statement that drivers who deny rides to people with service animals would be "deactivated."
