Undercover Oakland Police Officers Shot At, Three Arrested

Three men were arrested after they allegedly opened fire Wednesday morning on two undercover Oakland police officers investigating a homicide, although their bullets did not make contact with anyone, police said.

Lt. Steve Novak also said that two guns were recovered. The men, in their 20s, fled, but crashed their getaway car, Novak said. Two were arrested at the scene, and the third was arrested later on Foothill Boulevard.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the 1:30 a.m. shooting at 55th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, according to Officer Johnna Watson.

Video from Tuesday night shows a team of uniformed police officers shouting "Oakland police department, come out with your hands up!" at a house near Congress and Ygnacio avenues near Foothill Boulevard, where the undercover officers first pulled over a vehicle before they were shot.l

The streets in the area remained closed Wednesday morning as police investigated.

The trio are related to a gang investigation, Novak said, but not to the homicide that undercover officers were investigating.
