New, Outdoor Market on Treasure Island This Weekend

Holiday weekend shopping a grand distraction -- in the middle of the Bay.

Treasure Island seems a perfect place to uncover some new, um, treasures, this Memorial Day weekend.

It's not well-worn and re-used pieces, hauled out of a garage and spread on a blanket, either. The in augural Treasure Island Flea is more an upscale experience, with gourmet food vendors and original, creative and Bay-centric products.

Original clothing, furniture from recalimed ship's wood, unique jewelry, "art, sport collections, pinball machines, etc," accoding to their site.

Smack in the middle of the Bay, an outdoor retail experience that they claim -- and we can't disprove -- is the only event of its kind. Of course, it's also their first try, so it's prudent to expect some logistical, learning-curve situations.

Exhibitors open their shops from 9a-4p on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $3 and there are ATMs on-site.

Of course, the Bay Bridge has some delays this Memorial Day weekend, so take that into consideration.

(Here's our Memorial Day Guide, should you want to get off the island, too.)
