Police are warning residents about an elaborate phone scam that led to one Vallejo woman losing thousands of dollars.

Police said the victim received a call from someone claiming to be Vallejo police.

The suspect ordered the victim to pay a $2,000 fine or risk arrest. And the caller ID flashed a number that appeared to be associated with Vallejo PD.

This caused the victim to buy into the story and pay the fine.

Police said if you get similar calls, call them and file a report immediately.
