Just a week after it it became a target for vandals, a statue of Jesus at a Central California church has again been defamed.

Employees of the Sacred Heart Church in Merced were greeted by the 6-foot tall figure Tuesday morning spray painted from head to foot with black. The church's parish secretary figures the unholy act went down sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

"It's disgusting," Avelina Garcia told the Merced Sun-Star. "It's people that are mad about life or angry. They just don't care. That's the only reason I can think of why anybody would do this."

Someone also spray painted the statue last week. Volunteers cleaned it up then and will be doing the same this time.

The statue seems to be a favorite for Jesus haters. Several years ago, someone moved the piece from its base and took it for a ride. It was later found in an alleyway.
