Vandals Hit NorCal Cemetery

Someone tore up an historic Northern California cemetery, destroying headstones and benches.

The Manzanita Cemetery in Placer County has graves dating to the mid-19th century.

Officials say the destruction happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

"It took some time," Peter Barmettler told KCRA, adding that some of the markers weigh more than 1,000 pounds.

Barmettler told KCRA in Sacramento that the the damage appeared to be random, with no ethnic or religious group targeted.

He said some things were simply overturned while others were broken into several pieces.

Insurance investigators were on the scene Tuesday documenting the damage.
