Violent Carjacking Leads to High-Speed Chase & Crash

Antioch police said Wednesday that they arrested a carjacking suspect who crashed a stolen vehicle in another city - Pittsburg.

Police said in a statement that two people were leaving a restaurant Tuesday near the intersection of 10th and G streets around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday night when they were attacked by a man and a woman, who allegedly stole their car keys and their vehicle.

About an hour later, someone spotted seeing the stolen car, and the suspect getting into another car and leaving, police said.

The location of where the car was heading - to Pittsburg - got Pittsburg police involved. Police there spotted that car and tried to pull it over. The car sped off and police chased it. That's when the driver lost control, jumped a curb and then crashed into a tree just outside a Pittsburg IHOP. The restaurant was open at the time and people were inside, but no one was hurt.

Police arrested  41-year-old Isidro Gali. He was booked into a Martinez jail on charges of carjacking and possession of stolen property. Police said that Gali has an "extensive criminal history" including convictions for auto theft, burglary, willful discharge of firearm and DUI.

Officers are still looking for the woman involved. The two people attacked outside the restaurant suffered non-life threatening injuries.
