Forty years ago, Livermore National Laboratory scientist Dr. Dick Post co-wrote an article outlining the potential of flywheel technology as a way to store large amounts of energy (as opposed to, for example, using batteries).
At the time, neither the technology nor the materials existed to make the flywheels he imagined.
Dr. Post never wavered in his belief that he was right, though. After enduring four decades of fits and starts, of skeptics and obstacles, his vision is finally becoming a reality.
