Water Main Breaks Near Washington High School in Fremont

A water main break burst near Washington High School’s campus in Fremont early Monday morning, making the start-of-the-week commute more painful than usual for students.

School officials sent out a 6:30 a.m. phone alert to parents notifying them of the road closure on Eggers Drive between Fremont Boulevard and Fabian Common. A secretary in the school’s administration office said parents were not allowed to drop off their children along Eggers Drive near the school, but that campus is otherwise unaffected by the main break.

Muntaz Siddiqui lives nearby and told NBC Bay Area that the road repair process has been disruptive.

"We couldn't sleep all night because of the noise," Siddiqui said.

On top of that, he woke up this morning to discover that he and his family were without water.

Siddiqui spoke to a member of the Alameda County Water District, who reportedly told him that it may take 16 to 20 hours to restore water in his neighborhood.

The road is currently closed for repairs and it is unclear when it will reopen.
