Humpback Whales Spotted at Moss Landing

A pod of 15 humpback whales have taken up off Moss Landing.

Now's your chance to see some enormous mammals: humpback whales are off the coast of Moss Landing, and they're frolicking.

A swarm of anchovies in the water nearby has drawn a pod of 15 of the once-endangered sea creatures to the shallow water near Moss Landing State Beach, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

"There were tons of them. It wasn't just one or two," said Kyle Baldwin, a Roseville resident who watched "the show" for hours on Thursday.

"It was spectacular," he told the Sentinel.

Locals told the newspaper that the whale show is a "once-in-every-five-years phenomenon."
