There will be no Will Ferrell at prom this year.
A San Ramon Valley High teacher's effort to get the comedian to attend the school's May 10 prom ended this week with a "dispiriting 'no,'" the Contra Costa Times reported.
Chad Cochran got the call from Ferrell's publicist this week, who said that the actor would be in Europe for two months and "unavailable," the newspaper reported.
That was the net result of Cochran's labor, the "determined teacher" who filmed a pair of videos in an attempt to attract Ferrell's attention.
Cochran says the experience is a teachable moment for his students, who now know the power of social media.
His backup plan for a prom date? His wife, he told the newspaper.
