Stray Bullet Hits Woman Inside San Jose Vietnamese Restaurant: Police

The search is on for a gunman in San Jose who shot a woman eating in a Vietnamese restaurant.

It happened at May Hong, at the intersection of Senter and Tully, in the city's Little Saigon neighborhood.

Police believe the woman who was shot was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sgt. Todd Cleaver told NBC Bay Area it's most likely the shooter "didn't have a target in mind.

Police say the woman, apparently an innocent bystander, was having dinner just before 9 p.m. when she was wounded.

“The restaurant had curtains on it,” Cleaver said. “We believe the shooter was shooting at the restaurant but didn’t really have a target in mind. One of the rounds went into the restaurant through the curtains and struck a patron while she was eating.”

The woman was struck in the neck and is in stable condition.

Witnesses tell police that the suspect took off running.

Police have not released a suspect description.
