Woman Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Vehicle with 8-Month-Old Baby in Backseat

A 36-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle with an 8-month-old child in the backseat.

Terria Artiga was arrested Sunday and faces charges of kidnapping and possession of a stolen vehicle, San Jose Police Officer Albert Morales said.

Morales said police responded to a call from the baby's father at 7:16 a.m. to report seeing an unknown woman driving his vehicle on the southbound lane of Hopkins Avenue.

Police later found the vehicle abandoned with the infant inside nearby on Mabel Avenue. The baby was unharmed, according to Morales.

Police continued to search the area and located a suspicious vehicle nearby on Karl Street. Artiga was the only person inside the vehicle and was sitting in the passenger seat, Morales said.  She matched a suspect description and was subsequently taken into custody.
