Woman Who Claimed 20 Kids On Taxes Sentenced

We've heard of the octomom, but this is ridiculous -- and too ridiculous even for the IRS, which after eight years caught onto the scam of a Livermore woman who claimed on her taxes 20 children all born on the same day.

Being a mother is not easy. Being a mother to 20 children all born on the same day is next to impossible, as the Internal Revenue Service figured out after eight years.

A Livermore woman will serve 18 months behind bars for tax fraud, after she claimed on her taxes to be the mother of 20 children all born in Los Angeles County on Dec. 11, 2002, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Norma Coronel, 40, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty on Sept. 2. For eight years, betweeen 2003 and 2011, she claimed 20 children on tax forms, saving her and relatives -- and costing the government -- $302,000 in unpaid taxes, according to the newspaper.

Coronel is also in the United States illegally and will be deported after she serves her sentence, according to reports. The taxman cometh, and the taxman taketh away.
