Santa Clara Blackhawks 16AA team accused of throwing a hockey game.
UPDATE: Three coaches have all been suspended and the investigation is ongoing, according to California Amateur Hockey Association Steve Laing in a phone interview with NBC Bay Area.
A hearing date has not been set, but at that time coaches will have the right to present their side, as well as the right to appeal any outcome.
The Blackhawks' next game is Friday at 8am in Lakewood, CA at Glacial Gardens Ice Rink. The following game is at 4:15pm, where the Blackhawks play the Los Angeles team they allegedly harmed.
The decision was made to let the team continue in the playoffs due to their work in the regular season, Laing said.
The coaches of the Santa Clara Blackhawks 16AA team are under investigation after accusations they told their players to throw a game.
We have posted video from the February 27 game courtesy of Watch My Team Play. The Santa Clara Blackhawks are the team in white. They were playing a team from southern California. The allegation is the Blackhawks were playing to lose. By losing, a team from Los Angeles apparently got a tougher draw in the league playoffs.
The California Amateur Hockey Association says it is investigating the incident.
The Santa Clara Blackhawks Board says, "We understand many people to be upset, and we do not take lightly the negative reflection this entire situation has had on the hockey community. We will endeavor as a club to analyze how we can eliminate situations of this type through education and awareness and further strengthen our hockey community as a whole."
