Crosswalks in San Francisco are getting a bold new look.
Instead of just two white lines marking the crosswalk, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is repainting the crosswalks with zebra strips.
The idea is that bolder white stripes will make the crossing more visible.
Until recently, the SFMTA has primarily implemented these high-visibility crosswalks near schools and at mid-block crosswalks. But the agency's goal is to add more of them. Hundreds so far have been painted on streets including Geary Boulevard, 3rd Street and Guerrero Street.
The change is part of “Vision Zero,” an effort to end all traffic deaths in the city by 2024.
