2 NJ Part-Time Police Officers Struck by Vehicle

Two Cliffside Park special police officers were struck Saturday by a compact utility vehicle, leaving one with a serious  head injury, authorities said.

The officers, both 22, were on foot patrol and crossing and intersection at Walker and John streets when hit by a Honda CRV operated by a woman driver. The identities of the officers and driver were unavailable.

Both officers were transported to the Hackensack University Medical Center.

One officer was listed in serious condition and appeared to have a significant head injury, authorities said. The other was listed in serious, but stable, condition.

The driver of the vehicle was being questioned by investigators, who did not provide further details.

Special police officers typically work part-time and are not allowed to carry guns.
