Families Wait for Word on Nepal Missing; 4 Americans Dead

A fourth American was confirmed Monday to have died in the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal over the weekend, as the families of the Americans still missing in the Himalayan nation desperately awaited word of their loved ones. The State Department confirmed Monday that it knew of four Americans who had died in the quake, all of them in the area of Mount Everest amid avalanches. The U.S. was sending more than 100 people to aid in rescue operations, and was committing $10 million to relief efforts. Meanwhile, a Seattle mom was hoping to hear from her 19-year-old daughter Sydney Schumacher, who had texted her mother last week from Kathmandu before heading off on a trek through a national park.
